Brooks Revel 9 Review
A Comfortable Everyday Walking Shoe That Earned My Trust
When I opened the box, I was disappointed.
I had hoped to receive the Brooks Addiction Walker 2 or Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 through the Brooks program, but instead they sent me the Brooks Revel 9. At first, I assumed it wouldn’t be the shoe I wanted to review.
Then I put it on.
The more I wore it, the more my opinion changed.
As someone living with severe neuropathy, I evaluate shoes differently than most reviewers. I look beyond soft cushioning and focus on stability, heel security, fit, and whether I feel confident walking.
Best For
- Everyday walking
- Mild foot pain
- Narrow to average-width feet
- People wanting a firmer, more stable feel than very soft running shoes
May Not Be Best For
- Very wide feet
- Severe bunions
- People needing maximum toe-box room
- Those wanting the widest possible walking platform
What I Liked
✔ Comfortable heel hold without feeling tight
✔ Less pressure across the top of my foot than another shoe I recently tested
✔ Firm, stable feel that inspired confidence
✔ Slight rocker that helped my walking stride feel smooth
✔ Comfortable enough that I wanted to keep wearing them
Things I Didn’t Like
✘ No heel pull tab, making them slightly harder to put on
✘ I wish the outsole were a little wider for additional stability
✘ The forefoot is slightly narrower than some maximum-cushion shoes
Stability
Although the outsole isn’t as wide as shoes like the Brooks Addiction Walker 2 or New Balance 928v3, the Revel 9 felt surprisingly stable.
Compared with some softer shoes I’ve worn, the firmer platform reduced the “marshmallow” feeling and made me feel more planted while walking.
Comfort
The Brooks Revel 9 fit my narrow feet very well.
The upper held my foot securely without squeezing the top of my foot, and the heel felt comfortably locked in place.
While the toe box isn’t as roomy as my Hoka Gaviota 5, I remained comfortable during my indoor testing.
My Honest Opinion
This wasn’t the shoe I expected to like.
After spending time wearing it and comparing it directly with several other walking shoes, it earned my respect.
Would I choose it over a Brooks Addiction Walker 2 or Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 for someone with significant balance problems? Probably not.
But as an everyday walking shoe with a secure fit and a stable feel, the Brooks Revel 9 performed much better than I expected.

Tammy Says…
I honestly expected to be disappointed because this wasn’t the Brooks model I wanted. Instead, the Revel 9 surprised me. It fit my narrow feet better than my Hoka Gaviota 5, held my heel securely, and felt stable enough that I found myself wanting to keep wearing it. While I still wish the outsole were a little wider, this shoe earned my trust through real-world use—not marketing claims.
